About The Position

Our Charlotte, NC office is looking for a Substation Physical Designer with 10+ years of experience to join our Power Delivery team! Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the design and preparation of the following substation drawings: Substation one-lines and three-lines, Station general arrangements and sections, Electrical details, Grounding plan and details, Conduit plan and details, Control cubicle layout, sections, cable tray, lighting, and grounding, Low-voltage AC panels, Grounding, Lightning protection, Illumination. Development of bills of materials and general arrangements from substation one-line diagrams. Coordination with protection and controls, civil/structural, and drafting disciplines to ensure quality deliverables. Participation in client meetings and site visits for data gathering, as required. Interpretation and incorporation of vendor information into design deliverables. Application of client standards related to the work. Performing and ensuring the company’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes are followed for all design packages. Continuous improvement of job-related engineering, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Substation Physical design
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of substation design techniques, tools, and principals involved in the production of technical drawings and models
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Autodesk or Bentley products
  • Strong work ethic, interpersonal communication/writing skills and desire to learn
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Willingness to mentor and teach others
  • Detail oriented, professional attitude, good communication, team player, self-starter
