About The Position

Kimley-Horn’s Philadelphia, Pennsylvania office is seeking a Substation Physical Designer with at least four years of experience to join its Power Delivery team. This is not a remote position. The designer will support the design and execution of high-voltage and medium-voltage substation projects for utility, renewable energy, and industrial clients. Work includes developing physical layouts, equipment arrangements, grounding systems, lightning protection systems, and construction drawing packages, while coordinating with protection and control, civil, structural, and electrical disciplines. The role calls for a self-driven designer with strong technical skills, familiarity with substation design standards and industry practices, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. The position may serve as technical lead on projects with limited guidance, perform quality control reviews, create and review bills of materials, and develop and review proposals and scopes of work for smaller projects. It also includes providing technical guidance and training recommendations to less experienced engineers and designers, and communicating with internal teams and clients to meet project objectives. Kimley-Horn describes its culture as focused on people, clients, employee development, and quality.
