About The Position

Kimley-Horn’s Philadelphia, Pennsylvania office is seeking a Substation Physical Design Engineer with at least four years of relevant experience to join the Power Delivery team. This is not a remote position. The engineer will support the design and execution of high-voltage and medium-voltage substation projects for utility, renewable energy, and industrial clients. The role involves developing physical layouts, equipment arrangements, grounding and lightning protection systems, and construction drawing packages, coordinating with protection and control, civil, structural, and electrical disciplines, and managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will perform conceptual and detailed substation physical and electrical design, engineering studies and calculations, and quality-control reviews. They will also take technical leads on projects with limited guidance, prepare and review bills of materials, develop and review proposals and scopes of work for smaller projects, lead client meetings related to physical design, and support the development of less experienced engineers. The role offers opportunities to develop leadership skills for future team roles.
