About The Position

This is a Non-Exempt position directly responsible for the supervision, assignment, and coordination of Substation Construction and Maintenance activities. The goal is to ensure a productive workforce that supports all divisional, departmental, site, and corporate goals, in accordance with company policies and regulations. The Substation General Foreman will direct the work and provide technical assistance to subordinates and craft employees working under contracts. This role requires 10-12 years of continuous experience and involves identifying, tracking, and reporting completed job units. The Foreman will participate in job estimation, attend pre-bid meetings, and conduct client pre-construction meetings. Key responsibilities include ensuring the safety and work quality of the crew. This is a supervisory position with the expectation of developing into an Area Supervisor.

Requirements

  • 10-12 years of continuous experience.
  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Capable of climbing and working at heights up to 125 feet above ground.
  • Must possess or be capable of obtaining a Commercial Drivers’ License.
  • Must supply own personal hand tools required by the company for this work.
  • Must supply own safety toed work boots.
  • Capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Capable of working in confined spaces/areas.
  • Able to work independently or with others.
  • Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment (Bucket, derrick and boom trucks, Backhoes, excavators and skid steer loaders, Articulating Man-lifts, Pressure Diggers, Trenchers, Track Crawler Loader/Backhoe, Rough Terrain Telescopic Forklifts).
  • Willing to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested.
  • 90% Travel Required.
  • Capable of following Company safety rules and policies.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards.
  • Capable of working in close proximity of energized substation equipment.
  • Proficient knowledge in all aspects of substation systems.
  • Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when requested.
  • Willing to work over-time when requested.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees job to ensure crew is working safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, adjusting and troubleshooting work of substation equipment/systems.
  • Responsible for maintaining Company vehicles, test equipment and tools in good working conditions.
  • Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
  • Directs the work and provides technical assistance to subordinates and craft employees.
  • Identifies, properly tracks and reports completed job units.
  • Participates in job estimation and attends pre-bid meetings.
  • Conducts client pre-construction meetings.
  • Responsible for the safety and work quality of his crew.
  • Schedules and oversees multiple jobs.
  • Interprets substation structural drawings and communicates with customers and subordinates.
  • Appraises technical situations and recommends resolutions to problems.
  • Leads and coaches subordinates on the crew.
  • Develops and interprets a material list.
  • Traces out phasing in a substation and verifies to the three line diagrams.
  • Determines the proper phase shift and rotation in paralleling transformer banks.
  • Directs the daily work of the crews or large scale jobs.
