About The Position

The Substation Foreman is responsible for the supervision, assignment, and coordination of Substation Construction and Maintenance activities. This role ensures a productive workforce that supports all divisional, departmental, site, and corporate goals while adhering to company policies and regulations. The Foreman will direct work, provide technical assistance to subordinates and craft employees working under contracts, and is responsible for identifying, tracking, and reporting completed job units. This position participates in job estimation, attends pre-bid meetings, and conducts client pre-construction meetings. The Substation Foreman is responsible for the safety and work quality of their crew. This is a working Foreman position and may require travel to other states based on customer demands.

Requirements

  • 8-9 years of continuous experience with 5 years worked as a Top Substation Technician A craft position.
  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Capable of climbing and working at heights up to 125 feet above ground.
  • Must possess a Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Must supply own personal hand tools required by the company for this work.
  • Must supply own safety toed work boots.
  • Capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Capable of working in confined spaces/areas.
  • Able to work independently or with others.
  • Willing to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested.
  • Capable of following Company safety rules and policies.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards.
  • Capable of working in close proximity of energized substation equipment.
  • Proficient knowledge in all aspects of substation systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment: Bucket, derrick and boom trucks, Backhoes, excavators and skid steer loaders, Articulating Man-lifts, Pressure Diggers, Trenchers, Track Crawler Loader/Backhoe, Rough Terrain Telescopic Forklifts.
  • Ability to interpret substation structural drawings (i.e. elevations, plan views, section views, grounding details, and foundation plans).
  • Ability to accurately appraise technical situations and recommend resolutions to problems.
  • Ability to lead/coach subordinates on the crew.
  • Ability to develop and interpret a material list.
  • Ability to trace out phasing in a substation and verify to the three line diagrams.
  • Ability to determine the proper phase shift and rotation in paralleling transformer banks.
  • Able to direct the daily work of the crew.
  • Have the capability of reading and working from drawings, specifications, procedures, standards, as well as the ability to work within the confines of a project’s performance schedule.
  • Responsibility for all crew members.
  • Able to motivate work crew members and develop pride in crew members.
  • Ability to establish grade, elevations, and layout of foundations and cable trough in new and existing stations.

  • Appraises technical situations and recommends resolutions.
  • Leads and coaches subordinates on the crew.
