About The Position

The Substation Foreman is responsible for the supervision, assignment and coordination of Substation Construction and Maintenance activities. This role ensures a productive workforce that supports all divisional, departmental, site, and corporate goals in accordance with company policies and regulations. The Substation Foreman will direct the work and provide technical assistance to subordinates and craft employees working under contracts. This position requires 8-9 years of continuous experience, with 5 of those years as a Top Substation Technician A craft position. Responsibilities include identifying, tracking, and reporting completed job units to the Project Manager or General Foreman. The Substation Foreman will participate in job estimation, attend pre-bid meetings, and conduct client pre-construction meetings. This role is also responsible for the safety and work quality of the crew. It is a working Foreman position and may require travel to other states depending on customer demands.

Requirements

  • 8-9 years of continuous experience with 5 of these years worked as Top Substation Technician A craft position.
  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Must be capable of climbing and working at heights up to 125 feet above ground.
  • Must possess a Commercial Drivers’ License.
  • Must supply own personal hand tools required by the company for this work.
  • Must supply own safety toed work boots.
  • Must be capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Must be capable of working in confined spaces/areas.
  • Must be able to work independently or with others.
  • Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment: Bucket, derrick and boom trucks, Backhoes, excavators and skid steer loaders, Articulating Man-lifts, Pressure Diggers, Trenchers, Track Crawler Loader/Backhoe, Rough Terrain Telescopic Forklifts.
  • Willing to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested.
  • 90% Travel Required.
  • Capable of following Company safety rules and policies.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards.
  • Must be capable of working in close proximity of energized substation equipment.
  • Ability to accurately appraise technical situations and recommend resolutions to problems.
  • Ability to lead/coach subordinates on the crew.
  • Proficient knowledge in all aspects of substation systems.
  • Must be able to follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies.

  • Travel to Georgia and other states/locations is required.
  • Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.
  • Willing to work for extended periods in various locations, when requested.
  • Willing to work over-time when requested.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees job to ensure crew is working safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, adjusting and troubleshooting work of substation equipment/systems.
  • Responsible for maintaining Company vehicles, test equipment and tools in good working conditions.
  • Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
  • Identifying, properly tracking and reporting of completed job units to the Project Manager or General Foreman.
  • Participating in job estimation.
  • Attending pre-bid meetings.
  • Conducting client pre-construction meetings.
  • Responsible for the safety and work quality of his crew.
  • Directing the daily work of the crew.
  • Responsibility for all crew members.
  • Motivating work crew members and developing pride in crew members.
  • Establishing grade, elevations, and layout of foundations and cable trough in new and existing stations.
  • Interpreting substation structural drawings (i.e. elevations, plan views, section views, grounding details, and foundation plans) and communicate with customers and subordinates.
  • Developing and interpreting a material list.
  • Tracing out phasing in a substation and verifying to the three line diagrams.
  • Determining the proper phase shift and rotation in paralleling transformer banks.
  • Working from drawings, specifications, procedures, standards, as well as working within the confines of a project’s performance schedule.
