About The Position

The Substation Foreman is responsible for the supervision, assignment, and coordination of Substation Construction and Maintenance activities to ensure a productive workforce that supports all divisional, departmental, site, and corporate goals while in accordance with all company policies and local, state, and federal regulations. The Substation Foreman will direct the work and provide technical assistance to subordinates assigned to assist him/her and craft employees working under lump sum and fixed unit price contracts. The Substation Foreman requires 8-9 years of continuous experience with 5 of these years worked as a Top Substation Technician A craft position, and will be responsible for identifying, properly tracking, and reporting of completed job units to the Project Manager or General Foreman. The Substation Foreman will participate in job estimation and will be expected to attend pre-bid meetings and to conduct client pre-construction meetings. The Substation Foreman will be responsible for the safety and work quality of his crew. This is a working Foreman position, and it may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. TRAVEL TO FLORIDA AND OTHER STATES/LOCATIONS IS REQUIRED.

Requirements

  • 8-9 years of continuous experience with 5 of these years worked as Top Substation Technician A craft position.
  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Capable of climbing and working at heights up to 125 feet above ground.
  • Must possess a Commercial Drivers’ License.
  • Must supply own personal hand tools required by the company for this work.
  • Must supply own safety toed work boots.
  • Capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Capable of working in confined spaces/areas.
  • Able to work independently or with others.
  • Willing to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested.
  • Capable of following Company safety rules and policies.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards.
  • Capable of working in close proximity of energized substation equipment.
  • Proficient knowledge in all aspects of substation systems.
  • Must be able to follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies.

  • Operational experience of various types of heavy equipment: Bucket, derrick and boom trucks, Backhoes, excavators and skid steer loaders, Articulating Man-lifts, Pressure Diggers, Trenchers, Track Crawler Loader/Backhoe, Rough Terrain Telescopic Forklifts.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees job to ensure crew is working safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, adjusting and troubleshooting work of substation equipment/systems.
  • Responsible for maintaining Company vehicles, test equipment and tools in good working conditions.
  • Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
  • Interprets substation structural drawings (i.e. elevations, plan views, section views, grounding details, and foundation plans) and communicate with customers and subordinates.
  • Appraises technical situations and recommends resolutions to problems.
  • Leads/coaches subordinates on the crew.
  • Develops and interprets a material list.
  • Traces out phasing in a substation and verifies to the three line diagrams.
  • Determines the proper phase shift and rotation in paralleling transformer banks.
  • Directs the daily work of the crew.
  • Reads and works from drawings, specifications, procedures, standards, as well as working within the confines of a project’s performance schedule.
  • Responsible for all crew members.
  • Motivates work crew members and develops pride in crew members.
  • Establishes grade, elevations, and layout of foundations and cable trough in new and existing stations.
  • Works for extended periods in various locations, when requested.
  • Works outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.
