The Substation Engineer V leads technical execution of electrical substation projects from kickoff through delivery. The role applies advanced engineering expertise and independent judgment to develop technically sound, constructible, and code-compliant designs, and serves as the primary technical owner of project scope, deliverable quality, and engineering decisions. The engineer acts as the day-to-day technical lead, mentors engineering staff, supports Project Managers, interfaces directly with clients, and promotes high-quality delivery through proactive risk management and rigorous quality control. The position leads major portions of substation projects or independently executes small-to-medium projects. It owns the technical scope, including physical and protection and control design deliverables, and prepares, reviews, and approves engineering drawings, calculations, studies, and bills of material. The role identifies and resolves or escalates risks, design conflicts, and scope impacts; performs and oversees engineering analyses; and conducts QA/QC reviews before deliverables are issued. When licensed, the engineer may serve as Engineer of Record. The engineer provides technical guidance and development feedback to Engineer I–IV staff, communicates project status and technical risks to clients and internal stakeholders, and maintains day-to-day client engineering relationships. The role also maintains project documentation and records and travels as required for coordination, site visits, or client meetings. Toth and Associates is a full-service consulting engineering firm serving utility and other clients, and describes its workplace as collaborative and supportive, with opportunities for professional development and career growth.
