About The Position

Omexom Ireland require Substation Electricians to play a key part in our organisational success, ensuring commitments to our customers are delivered on time and to the highest standard. The job holder will have a consistent track record of project delivery and will be required to work on Substation projects across Ireland, with voltages varying from 11kv / 110kv / 220kv. Projects will include both new builds and refurbishments and applicants must be highly flexible and able to travel and work away from home as required. Reporting to the relevant Project Manager, the key duties of the role are outlined below.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience as an Electrician.
  • Knowledge of protection and control systems and ability to work off schematic diagrams.
  • Experience of installation and termination of SWA (Single Wire Armoured) Multicore and Communications cables.
  • Installation of Substation plant & equipment: Transformer assembly, Support structures and associated equipment (CTs; VTs; Busbars; Circuit Breakers; Disconnects, etc)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings. High level manual dexterity and technical ability with previous experience in panel wiring.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety protocols, especially in high-voltage environments.
  • Awareness of risk assessments, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and emergency response.
  • Electrical trade qualification (e.g. QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate – Craft in Electrical).
  • Valid Manual Handling and Safe Pass certification.
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Proof of eligibility to work in Ireland.

Nice To Haves

  • HV Substation experience.
  • Knowledge of ESB Networks safety standards
  • Proven experience in electrical installation, maintenance, and fault-finding—especially in Medium Voltage (MV) and High Voltage (HV) environments.
  • Familiarity with substation equipment: transformers, switchgear, protection relays, earthing systems.
  • Completed ESB station inductions

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment in substations (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear).
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Replace or upgrade outdated or faulty components.
  • Diagnose faults and troubleshoot issues in high-voltage systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  • Document test results and equipment performance.
  • Assist engineers and other technicians during substation upgrades or expansions.
