About The Position

WSP is seeking an Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer for its Maitland, Florida office. This role involves contributing to projects within the Power Delivery Substation Team, supporting the organization in meeting client objectives and solving challenges. The engineer will share responsibility for producing work consistent with WSP's mission and culture, supporting departmental goals, maintaining high-quality standards, promoting teamwork, and meeting client needs. WSP has global expertise in power delivery, power generation, and program management, enhanced by acquisitions. The company partners with clients worldwide to shape energy systems evolution.

Requirements

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option.
  • 0-1 years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering.
  • Must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates should enjoy living in the St Louis area, or have a desire and ability to relocate there with minimal assistance.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • At least three months of relevant electrical engineering work experience; could be on an internship or co-op basis.
  • Minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA).
  • Knowledge of electrical utility substations and familiarity with substation design.
  • Engineer In Training certificate (EIT) or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the detailed design of low to extra-high voltage substations including one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, station physical layouts, sections/elevations, cable and conduit plans and details, ground grid design and details, foundation plans and details, structural plans and details, control enclosure design and details, lightning protection plans, yard lighting plans, and bills of materials.
  • Conduct site visits.
  • Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Learn, understand, and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs.
  • Be involved in all aspects of transmission line design for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic additions.
