About The Position

The Substance Use Specialist works within an interdisciplinary team to provide intensive, frequent, wrap-around services to individuals with a diagnosis of serious and persistent mental illness. The specialist is assigned to treatment teams for individuals who have identified substance use that interferes with their goals and functioning. They work alongside other specialists in carrying out rehabilitative interventions specific to co-occurring evidence-based practices. The Substance Use Specialist is responsible for conducting assessments that monitor the individual's goals and functioning on an ongoing basis. They typically see approximately 16 to 20 individuals within a working week and are expected to communicate interactions with individuals at daily team meetings and document these interventions in the Electronic Health Record.

Requirements

  • Holds a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields from an accredited college or university, and/or has at least 4,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to persons with serious and persistent mental illness; or holds a graduate degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields.
  • Individuals with 2,000 hours of experience in the delivery of mental health services to adults will also be considered as a Mental Health Rehab Worker until full supervision hours are met.
  • Travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting a variety of clinical assessments to monitor persons served goal areas and functioning on an ongoing basis.
  • Carries out interventions in the community and effectively communicates each interaction to the team in daily team meetings, as well as in the electronic health record.
  • Resource maintenance and acquisition.
  • Coordination with external providers and natural supports.
  • Monitoring the persons served substance use ongoing and making recommendations.
  • Serving as the team expert on co-occurring evidence-based treatment approaches and substance use trends in the community.
  • Participating in crisis response at the lowest level of escalation.
  • Engaging in risk mitigation and harm reduction practices.
  • Participating in a rotation of on-call shifts.
