About The Position

The Substance Use Specialist role is part of the PROS program (Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Services), which aims to assist individuals in acquiring and maintaining the skills and supports necessary to live successfully in their communities. This program offers intensive rehabilitation services focused on wellness self-management, benefits and financial management, leisure planning, and skill development to manage symptoms and practice life skills. The goal is to help individuals obtain specific life roles and reduce the risk of relapse, hospitalization, loss of housing, or involvement with the criminal justice system.

Requirements

  • CASAC-T Certification required or CASAC preferred
  • Experience in substance abuse treatment and patient case management preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal regulations related to substance abuse treatment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, counseling, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and ethical standards in substance abuse counseling.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake interviews to assess patients' appropriateness for treatment and compile all necessary documentation for service initiation.
  • Complete thorough and accurate Intake Bio-Psycho-Social assessments within the required timeframe, detailing patient history and assessing the influence and effects of dependencies.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with patients in a supportive environment, assisting them in addressing substance use behaviors and achieving sobriety.
  • Utilize age-appropriate interventions tailored to patient needs.
  • Meet with patients according to the treatment plan.
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling sessions.
  • Educate patients on substance abuse, recovery strategies, and relapse prevention.
  • Maintain detailed and timely clinical/counseling records in compliance with The Guidance Center’s policies and all relevant regulations.
  • Develop multidisciplinary treatment plans with clear, realistic goals and objectives.
  • Ensure progress notes accurately reflect treatment plans, goals, objectives, and interventions, completing documentation within the required timeframe.
  • Prepare and submit discharge summaries within the designated period.
  • Stay informed on changes in agency policies, state and federal laws, and regulatory updates related to clinical treatment and patient care.
  • Communicate clinic policies and regulations effectively to patients and support them in adhering to these guidelines.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient records in accordance with CFR Part 42.
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, representing patient needs and contributing to treatment planning.
  • Serve as a liaison between the clinic and external community agencies or governmental organizations to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Make appropriate referrals to external agencies based on patient needs and treatment goals.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly group and individual supervision sessions.
  • Accept additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Support and respect interdisciplinary team decisions regarding patient care.
  • Demonstrate accountability in following through on team decisions and action plans.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor when resolving conflicts.
  • Exhibit sensitivity and awareness of age and gender-specific concerns affecting the patient population served.
  • Assess and respond to crisis situations appropriately, reporting relevant observations to the appropriate staff members.
  • Recognize and respond to signs of child abuse, neglect, and domestic violence, ensuring prompt reporting to the supervisor.
