About The Position

The Judicial Branch is seeking a Substance Use Monitor to monitor, coordinate activities, arrange, conduct, and maintain documentation for drug screenings. This role involves assisting Probation Officers, interacting with clients, collecting and disposing of urine specimens, conducting drug screenings, maintaining inventory, testifying in court, reporting results, and ensuring documentation procedures are followed. The position requires non-traditional hours, primarily serving in the afternoon at the probation reporting center in Beatrice, working until all drug testing tasks are completed after 5 pm.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in criminal justice, medical/laboratory, or a related area OR one year of experience as a drug technician or related position.
  • All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education.
  • Knowledge of drug screening and chemical testing methodology.
  • Knowledge of safe work methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of recordkeeping principles.
  • Knowledge of basic inventory management principles.
  • Knowledge of computers and related software applications.
  • Skill in performing drug screening.
  • Skill in collecting applicable samples.
  • Skill in maintaining specimen records.
  • Skill in monitoring inventory and supply levels.
  • Skill in maintaining operational records.
  • Skill in using a computer and related software applications.
  • Skill in utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, odors, poor ventilation, hazardous materials (chemicals, blood, and other body fluids, etc.), and challenging environmental conditions, imminent danger.
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires use of arm and/or leg controls and exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Probation officers with client contact and scheduling activities.
  • Greet clients, collect testing forms and accompany to drug testing area.
  • Conduct drug screening in accordance with established systems and procedures using approved testing methodologies. This includes obtaining urine specimen from Probationers, recording, and reporting results.
  • Store testing samples in secure location and ensures chain of custody procedures are observed at all times.
  • Maintain drug testing supplies and equipment inventory.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
