About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Specialist to provide evidence-based, person-centered treatment services for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. In this highly impactful role, you will work within an Integrated Health Home (IHH) or Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, delivering comprehensive substance use treatment, case management, outreach, crisis intervention, and care coordination. You'll play a vital role in helping clients improve their health, strengthen recovery, and build meaningful connections to community supports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Active Rhode Island credential in one of the following: Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC I or LADC II), Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), or Licensed Chemical Dependency Professional (LCDP).
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience working with individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Experience providing substance use assessments, treatment planning, counseling, and case management.
  • Experience conducting community outreach and delivering services in community-based settings.
  • Strong knowledge of documentation, billing, and compliance requirements associated with Medicaid and behavioral health services.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) or integrated care environment.
  • Experience coordinating or supporting Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services.
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria and recovery-oriented systems of care.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive substance use assessments utilizing validated screening and diagnostic tools.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans aligned with ASAM criteria, CCBHC standards, and recovery-oriented care principles.
  • Provide evidence-based individual and group counseling services.
  • Monitor client progress and modify treatment interventions based on outcomes and clinical needs.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation within the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Provide case management and care coordination services for individuals with co-occurring disorders.
  • Conduct ongoing mental health screenings and facilitate referrals for integrated treatment services.
  • Engage clients through outreach, follow-up, and retention strategies to support treatment participation.
  • Collaborate with behavioral health, primary care, and community partners to ensure coordinated care.
  • Deliver crisis intervention, risk assessment, and stabilization services.
  • Educate clients and families regarding substance use disorders, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), and recovery resources.
  • Support clients in accessing community-based services, healthcare appointments, housing, employment, and other recovery supports.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and program performance monitoring.
  • Assist with audits, reporting requirements, and regulatory reviews.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, Medicaid, CCBHC, and Rhode Island regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and clinical training.
