About The Position

The Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUD-P) is one who provides professional counseling services for substance use disorders within the mission, vision and values of the organization. The SUD-P goes beyond the treatable diagnosis by recognizing the unique needs of the person and the importance of the therapeutic relationship. The SUD-P identifies how the patient fits within the family unit and/or community they reside in while attempting to motivate and teach effective coping skills and strategies through professional individual, group, and/or family counseling services. The SUD-P works with adolescents, adults, and families to promote positive substance use disorder outcomes through proper diagnosing (Diagnostic Statistical Manual V) and proper placement within the American Society of Addiction Medicine guidelines. The SUD-P counsels and advises individuals with psychoactive substance use issues while utilizing other Behavioral Health providers, community members, and Family Medicine staff to achieve optimal outcomes for the patient. The SUD-P will monitor grant funded projects with support from leadership and behavioral health team members.

Requirements

  • Must have completed the educational requirements to possess a SUD-P license in Washington.
  • Bachelors degree, associates degree, and/or certificate in a SUD or chemical dependency program and 2500 supervised hours as an SUD-PT
  • Current licensure to practice as a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUD-P) in the State of Washington or ability to obtain within 60 days.
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience providing substance use disorder counseling
  • Providing services across multiple demographics while remaining cognizant of the socio-economic factors within rural communities

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of the treatment team providing individual and group counseling, as well as assessment of patients experiencing a variety of substance use disorders
  • Diligence, accuracy, and professionalism with billing and record keeping with an emphasis of individualized care in documentation of assessments, individual and group notes, consultations, service plans, emails and etc. in accordance with federal, state, and KVH guidelines.
  • Follows WAC, RCW, and KVH procedures regarding the provision of patient care and documentation.
  • Works in an integrated fashion with other disciplines and evaluates patient progress.
  • Provides a warm handoff to PCP, Emergency Department or Express Care, as appropriate.
  • May provide substance use disorder training to providers and other staff.
  • Engage in prevention programs and appropriate partnerships within the community.
  • May serve as liaison with community agencies.
  • Participate in community welfare and outreach activities
  • Be fluid and adaptable within the work environment as program changes to meet needs of the community.
  • Willingness to learn and use emerging technologies, including automation tools, software applications, and artificial intelligence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
