The Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUD-P) is one who provides professional counseling services for substance use disorders within the mission, vision and values of the organization. The SUD-P goes beyond the treatable diagnosis by recognizing the unique needs of the person and the importance of the therapeutic relationship. The SUD-P identifies how the patient fits within the family unit and/or community they reside in while attempting to motivate and teach effective coping skills and strategies through professional individual, group, and/or family counseling services. The SUD-P works with adolescents, adults, and families to promote positive substance use disorder outcomes through proper diagnosing (Diagnostic Statistical Manual V) and proper placement within the American Society of Addiction Medicine guidelines. The SUD-P counsels and advises individuals with psychoactive substance use issues while utilizing other Behavioral Health providers, community members, and Family Medicine staff to achieve optimal outcomes for the patient. The SUD-P will monitor grant funded projects with support from leadership and behavioral health team members.
