Position Summary: The Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee position is responsible to counsel individuals requiring assistance in dealing with substance use disorder. This will be carried out in compliance with the agency's values, mission, and philosophy. ASAM Criteria, WAC requirements, adherence to the clinical manual.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED required.
Bilingual preferred.
Must possess the Substance Use Disorder Professional credential as required by WAC.
Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and written instructions or other information.
Ability to plan, organize, and carry out assignments from management staff with minimal direction.
Ability to analyze situations and make decisions that moderately impact the immediate work unit.
Ability to organize and prioritize job duties effectively and timely, set priorities, and meet critical deadlines.
Ability to understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, and communicate orally.
Hearing, seeing, smelling, speaking, feeling, reaching, pinching, and repetitive motions.
Standing, walking, and bending for long periods.
May require exerting up to 40 pounds of force to lift, carry, pull, or move objects.

Nice To Haves

A Bachelor's experience and education related to the specific treatment needs of the various population is preferred.
Trainees will receive additional support and training during their initial hours (1500 hours for Masters, 2000 for Bachelors, and 2500 for Associates) and will be expected to be competent in all areas at the completion of the Trainee process. The supervisor will sign off on all documentation made by Trainee or other assigned certified counselors.

Responsibilities

Engage in and model healthy relationship skills while assessing treatment planning and counseling with clients in group and individual settings to provide a quality treatment experience.
Effectively communicate the client's needs, progress, problems, and recommendations to treatment teams and various agencies involved in their life. May need to represent the client in court when necessary.
Responsible for understanding and implementing essential elements of the ASAM assessment, placement process, objectives of individualized treatment planning as directed by ASAM criteria, and the essential elements of the ASAM continuous stay criteria.
Responsible for providing effective and concise education to clients and families through lectures, videos, written materials, and personalized media.
Responsible for documenting individual and group sessions, conducting case reviews to track clients' progress, and ensuring compliance with DOH and WAC requirements and timeliness.
Accurately assess the importance of providing support during times of acute emotional or physical distress knowing when to call in including but not limited to 911 or DCR.
Knowledge of when to fulfill the legal obligations of emergency management, which may include involvement with CPS and reporting to the police.
Understand how to make appropriate and effective referrals and recommendations.
Participate in team meetings and clinical trainings.
Complete requirements and keep licensure current and ensure up-to-date and accurate record-keeping for all continuing education requirements.
