About The Position

Frontier Behavioral Health (FBH) is a non-profit organization with over 100 years of experience in Spokane, dedicated to understanding and addressing the varied needs of its clients and the community. FBH offers evidence-based treatment to adults, youth, and seniors facing a wide range of behavioral health issues. As a Trauma-Informed Care Organization, FBH is committed to the belief that recovery is possible and that clients can lead fulfilling lives. The Program for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) is an intensive, community-based multidisciplinary treatment team that provides person-centered care to adults whose needs cannot be met through traditional outpatient services. The Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) within the PACT team focuses on treatment strategies for individuals with co-occurring substance use and thought disorder symptoms. Services include engagement, supportive listening, psychoeducation, skill-building, crisis assessment, prevention, intervention, resource education, coordination, and assisting clients in obtaining services while monitoring progress towards goals. The PACT team serves as the first-line crisis evaluator and responder during business hours and participates in rotating weekend shifts to ensure client coverage.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Addiction Studies or Substance Use Counseling or a related degree type.
• Washington State DOH certification as a Substance Use Disorder Professional.
• Must apply for a Counselor Agency Affiliated – Registered credential from the WA State Department of Health within 30 days of hire.
• Must have an unrestricted and valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to pass a motor vehicle screening and driving test.
• Must have active car insurance.
• Willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of work.
• Ability to communicate and engage effectively with individuals of varied backgrounds, trauma experiences, cultures, education level, and socio-economic status.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to send and receive oral and written messages, in a clear, positive, prompt, and appropriate manner, while maintaining customer confidentiality.
• Ability to develop knowledge of Washington Administrative Codes and statutes pertaining to the treatment and delivery of mental health services.
• Knowledge of service delivery models including groups, skills training, brief/focused therapy, community-based interventions for adults with co-occurring disorders.
• Ability to drive a vehicle, traverse distances up to several city blocks and on various terrains, navigate stairs, get in and out of vehicles frequently.
• Daily use of a computer is required.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s or Master's degree in behavioral health or related field.
• One year of experience providing substance use disorder treatment to individuals diagnosed with co-occurring disorders.

Responsibilities

• Provide evaluation and integrated co-occurring treatment to PACT clients with co-occurring disorders, including recovery plan development, assessments, and referrals for CD treatment.
• Conduct ongoing comprehensive substance use assessments that consider the relationship between substance use and mental health.
• Assess and track clients’ stages of change readiness and stages of treatment.
• Utilize outreach and motivational interviewing techniques.
• Employ cognitive behavioral approaches and relapse prevention strategies.
• Apply treatment approaches consistent with the clients’ stage of change readiness.
• Provide consultation, training, and education to teammates on issues related to co-occurring disorders.
• Serve as the key PACT team member in the service planning for clients with co-occurring disorders.
• Provide individual and group co-occurring services in a range of settings.
• Conduct risk assessments, develop and implement safety plans, and provide crisis intervention and stabilization services as needed, including facilitating access to inpatient facilities for behavioral health care.
• Participate in on-call shifts as needed, as the team has 24-hour responsibility for directly responding to psychiatric crises.
• Demonstrate teamwork and goal-oriented productivity and support the team in achieving direct service goals.
• Participate in daily multidisciplinary staff meetings.
• Work with individuals and their family members/significant others to become collaborative partners in the treatment process.
• Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with clinical, administrative, support staff, community partners, clients, and family/natural supports.
• Contribute to out-reached based, consumer-centered treatment, rehabilitation, and support, with 75% of services provided on an outreach basis in the community.
• Identify and include the client’s support network and applicable involved community partners in care coordination.
• Participate in inpatient discharge planning with the goal of troubleshooting substance abuse related barriers.
• Maintain client records and all other required documentation in a timely and confidential manner in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
• Help consumers become less socially isolated and more integrated into the community by encouraging participation in community activities.
• Participate in peer review, supervision, in-house educational and administrative meetings as indicated.
• Develop and implement care plans, measurable objectives, and obtainable goals, in collaboration with the client, evaluating client progress and adjusting as needed.
• Participate in any required training, consultation calls, and onsite visits or review when required by contract.
• Accept delegation and follow through with specific expanded assignments and responsibilities within FBH system such as quality improvement teams, task groups, committees, consultations, mentoring or training responsibilities.
• Assist clients in identifying and accessing resources and collaborate with community resources on behalf of clients.
• Comply with all state WAC requirements and FBH policies and procedures.
• Travel to see clients in the community and travel between work sites either via FBH owned vehicles and/or personal vehicle.
• Other duties as assigned.
