About The Position

Centurion is seeking a Full-Time Day Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Assessor to join their team at Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center (BCBIC) in Baltimore, Maryland. The SUD Assessor is responsible for conducting initial and ongoing assessments of patients in substance use programs to determine their treatment needs. This includes initial screening for new entrants, referring patients for necessary services (addiction medical, substance use counseling, re-entry services), and following up to ensure resource access. The role also involves collaborating with medical teams, custody staff, and conducting rounds to identify individuals who may have been missed in initial screenings. Referrals for SUD counseling, and co-occurring medical, mental health, and re-entry services are also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Peer Recovery Specialist or bachelor’s degree or higher in Behavioral or Social Sciences (Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or a related field)
  • Comfort communicating with patients and communicating with healthcare providers
  • Experience working in corrections/ substance use program preferred
  • Must be appropriately and actively certified in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/ BLS
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance, to include drug screen and criminal background check

Responsibilities

  • Conducts initial and ongoing assessments of patients in substance use programs to determine substance use treatment needs.
  • Conducts initial screening assessments for those entering the facility.
  • Refers patients for addiction medical, substance use counseling and re-entry services as needed.
  • Follows up with the patient to make sure they are receiving the desired resources.
  • Helps the team identify people missed on the initial screening through working with the medical team, custody staff and making rounds on the housing tiers.
  • Refers patients for SUD counseling and for coincident medical, mental health and re-entry services as needed.
