About The Position

Hygea Healthcare has launched a brand-new, 50-bed substance abuse detox facility in Middle River, MD, and we’re building a team of passionate, ethical, and energetic professionals to make a real impact! As a Substance Use Counselor, you’ll play a vital role in helping individuals overcome substance use disorders through individual, group, and family counseling using evidence-based practices. Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field
  • Active SUD Counselor certification (CSC-AD, CAC-AD, LCADC, LCPC, LCSW, LGPC, LGADC, LGSW)
  • 2+ years of experience in substance use disorder treatment (detox experience preferred)
  • Strong crisis management & de-escalation skills
  • A team player dedicated to making a difference
  • Minimum of 2 years of non-internship experience treating substance use disorders
  • Minimum of 2 years on non-internship experience working in a residential treatment center or outpatient facility
  • Proficient in providing support to clients during moments of crisis, equipped with effective verbal de-escalation techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field with two or more years in a AOD or mental health setting preferred.
  • Experience in detox practices preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling sessions to assist recovering individuals in preventing relapse and promoting long-term recovery.
  • Use an outcomes-based approach and evidenced-based practices to achieve results.
  • Conduct confidential, quality assessments, that are gender-responsive and trauma-informed, utilizing ASAM criteria to determine the appropriate level of care.
  • Use a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to work collaboratively with clients and internal and external Hygea Healthcare treatment team members to help support clients in their treatment and recovery.
  • Conduct individual, group, and family sessions, using evidence-based modalities and interventions.
