About The Position

The Ohio Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is seeking a qualified, licensed clinical counseling professional to serve as a Correctional Program Coordinator/Substance Use Counselor at the Correctional Reception Center. This role involves providing alcohol and drug group counseling and ancillary services to incarcerated individuals, utilizing evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills. The position focuses on helping participants gain necessary skills for substance-free and productive lives, facilitating life change, fostering responsibility, and building opportunities for them to become productive citizens. Requirements

• Must hold current certification or credentials in one of the following: Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor II (LCDC II), Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III (LCDC III), Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC), Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) by State of Ohio Counselor & Social Worker Board, Professional Clinical Counselor (PCC) by State of Ohio Counselor & Social Worker Board, Professional Counselor (PC) by State of Ohio Counselor & Social Worker Board, Licensed Social Worker (LSW) by State of Ohio Counselor & Social Worker Board, Licensed Physician by State of Ohio Medical Board, Licensed Psychologist by State of Ohio Board of Psychology, Registered Nurse by Ohio Board of Nursing, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist by State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker & Marriage & Family Therapist Board, Licensed Independent Marriage & Family Therapist licensed by State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker & Marriage & Family Therapist Board.
• Must submit official transcripts for all post-secondary education, coursework, or degrees listed on the application before receiving a formal employment offer. Transcripts printed from the institution’s website will not be accepted.
• All final applicants tentatively selected will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments. An applicant with a positive test shall not be offered employment.
• Must undergo a criminal background check. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration; an individual assessment will be made.
• Must complete the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction's training at the Corrections Training Academy (approximately 4 weeks).

Responsibilities

• Provide alcohol and drug group counseling and other ancillary services to participants on caseload at the assigned correctional institution.
• Complete assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge planning with participants, documented in the electronic health record.
• Engage clients and offer referrals to Medication-Assisted Treatment, Narcan, and Community Linkage to foster and strengthen recovery.
• Monitor and evaluate the progress of participants in substance use programs.
• Provide continuing care planning.
• Facilitate two cohorts of treatment programming at a time, with a ratio of 1:15 participants.
• Monitor activities of volunteers and oversee support/fellowship meetings.
