About The Position

Provide prevention and intervention for students with substance abuse issues to ensure student success and promote an exemplary educational program that fosters achievement for all students. This is a three-year grant-funded position from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) under the School Professional Grant Program, for the purpose of preventing substance use and abuse.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in psychology, mental health counseling, social work, or similar field
  • One (1) year of professional work experience
  • Strong communication, organization and planning skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to collaboratively work with students, teachers, staff, parents/guardians, and administrators
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competence and leadership
  • Ability to assess and provide intervention services to students who exhibit risk of substance use/abuse
  • Ability to work cooperatively and engage in active participation with teachers, mental health, deans and administrators to provide intervention and consultation regarding the needs of students
  • Ability to gather, interpret, and evaluate data for the purpose of program modification and interventions
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire
  • Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Special Service Provider (SSP) license

Nice To Haves

  • School psychologist or school social worker experience at the middle school level
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) certification
  • Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Provide school-based, multi-tiered counseling, social, emotional, and behavioral intervention services, and ongoing direct services to students with high risk of substance use/abuse, groups, and parents/guardians.
  • Work with school building administration to identify annual goals and priorities for prevention services.
  • Positively impact achievement and differentiate instruction based on the needs of the students by supporting programs designed to increase student achievement.
  • Develop positive working relationships with community agencies/resources.
  • Engage in ongoing professional growth and building/district professional activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
