About The Position

Avenues Recovery Center is hiring a Substance Abuse Counselor for its Dublin, New Hampshire residential facility, which provides drug and alcohol detox and inpatient rehabilitation services. The counselor will provide individualized, evidence-based treatment and therapy, manage the clinical needs and aftercare of an assigned caseload, support clients during crises, and coordinate care with the treatment team and families. The role calls for compassionate, ethical practice grounded in recovery principles, strong professional boundaries, and confidentiality.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field.
• Excellent observational, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Compassionate, dignified character that models recovery principles.
• Ability to set strong boundaries and maintain absolute confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree.
• Valid state licensure or certification to practice in this role, such as LADC, MLADC, LSW, LICSW, or LCMHC.

Responsibilities

• Create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for each client.
• Conduct individual, group, family, and couple therapy sessions.
• Take responsibility for all clinical needs, services, and aftercare for the counselor’s client caseload.
• Prevent, intervene, and de-escalate in the event of a crisis.
• Maintain detailed documentation of client challenges, progress, relapse risk, and interventions.
• Coordinate care with the Clinical Director, treatment team, and family.
• Model ethics, accountability, dignity, respect, and recovery principles in professional interactions.
