The Substance Abuse Counselor assists in developing, organizing, and conducting programs to provide education for conditions and problems relating to drug and alcohol use disorders. Conducts or assists in conducting individual and/or group counseling sessions and programs. The Substance Abuse Counselor provides relevant information regarding substance use disorders for groups as part of the Comprehensive Mental Health Group Program. Facilitates and co-facilitates didactic educational presentations, group counseling, and individual counseling sessions. The Substance Abuse Counselor selects and recommends new instructional materials and programs with a focus on substance use disorders. Maintains knowledge of new developments in the substance use disorder field. Completes required assessment and psychosocial history on incoming detainees as required. Participates in related training for substance use disorders and other relevant staff training. Performs other duties as assigned.
