Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in any of the social sciences and two (2) years of professional experience in chemical additions counseling; OR
  • An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of professional experience in chemical addition counseling; OR
  • A High School diploma/GED and six (6) years of professional experience in chemical addictions counseling.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a team of professionals and have the ability to implement team strategy approaches to work assignments.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification (CADC, formerly CSAC), LCAS or LCAS A preferred. Can be registered for CADC, however must be able to obtain full certification within one (1) year of start date.
  • Experience within a correctional setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide relevant Substance Abuse information for class curriculum.
  • Facilitate didactic educational presentations, group counseling, and individual counseling sessions.
  • Select and recommend new instructional materials and programs for use in the substance abuse program.
  • Maintain knowledge of new developments in the field of substance abuse.
  • Maintain a collegian relationship with other substance abuse professionals, programs, and associations.
  • Complete required testing, assessment, and psychosocial history on incoming residents as required.
  • Participate in related training for substance abuse.
