About The Position

The Substance Abuse Counselor, Clinical will provide direct patient care services to an inpatient population of men and women admitted to the Walter B Jones Center. This includes assessment, treatment planning, case management, counseling (individual, group, and family), crisis interventions, and education. Counselors work as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team to provide clinical services in adherence to policy and all applicable standards. The Walter B. Jones Center operates two adult inpatient treatment programs: Woodside Treatment Center and Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital. Its mission is to provide inpatient treatment, psychiatric stabilization, and medical detoxification for individuals with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses for ongoing community-based treatment and recovery. The Center is accredited by the Joint Commission and SAMHSA/CSAT and offers two specialty programs: Inpatient Opioid Treatment for adults and Inpatient Perinatal Services for women with substance use disorders.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) or as a Clinical Supervisor Intern (CSI) from a governing authority recognized by the NC Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board to practice under the provisions of the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Act.
  • Knowledge and practical application of advanced therapeutic approaches, group dynamics, and crisis intervention, family and trauma-focused therapy.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse addiction processes, including psychological and physical withdrawal.
  • Skill in establishing rapport with clients and their families and in applying techniques of assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of addiction.
  • Skill in formulating clear, goal-oriented treatment plans with appropriate documentation.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and their treatment as they relate to decisions regarding clinical interventions and appropriate therapies based on medical or psychological diagnoses.
