About The Position

Recognized highly experienced Submarine Weapons Systems Subject Matter Expert to support the design and development of the Navy’s next-generation SSN(X) fast attack submarine. The successful candidate will bring extensive operational and technical experience from existing submarine classes and apply fleet lessons learned to future submarine design. This individual will serve as a key liaison between the submarine fleet, engineering organizations, program offices, shipyards, and design teams to ensure that operational, maintenance, weapons-handling, and fleet-support considerations are incorporated into SSN(X).

Requirements

  • BS 12-15, MS 10-13, PhD 10+ years of experience.
  • Extensive experience with US Navy submarine weapons systems, launcher systems, and weapons-handling equipment.
  • Significant hands-on experience with multiple submarine classes, preferably including Virginia, Seawolf, Los Angeles, and Ohio-class SSBN/SSGN submarines. In lieu of degree, candidates will have twenty (20) years specific submarine experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate fleet operational and maintenance experience into engineering and design recommendations.
  • Extensive experience working directly with the operational submarine fleet and resolving complex fleet technical issues.
  • Experience coordinating across NAVSEA Program Offices, warfare centers, shipyards, engineering organizations, contractors, and operational commands.
  • Strong working knowledge of submarine maintenance, PMS, technical procedures, quality assurance, weight handling, and applicable NAVSEA requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both experienced fleet personnel and engineering/design teams.
  • Must have an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance; active Top Secret clearance strongly preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a Navy Torpedoman, submarine weapons specialist, weapons-handling supervisor, or comparable senior fleet technical expert.
  • Experience supporting an In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA)
  • Experience developing PMS documentation, repair procedures, or Test Load Methods Drawings (TLMDs).
  • Experience supporting submarine modernization programs or classified Special Projects.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership and direct fleet liaison support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide weapons systems and weapons-handling subject matter expertise to the SSN(X) design team.
  • Apply lessons learned from current and legacy submarine classes to new submarine system and equipment designs.
  • Evaluate proposed designs from the perspective of fleet operation, maintenance, accessibility, reliability, safety, and weapons-handling requirements.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between the design community and operational submarine fleet.
  • Coordinate with NAVSEA Program Offices, warfare centers, shipyards, engineering organizations, contractors, and fleet commands.
  • Identify potential fleet-support and maintainability issues early in the design process and recommend practical solutions.
  • Support development and review of maintenance concepts, technical procedures, PMS requirements, weapons-handling requirements, and related technical documentation.
  • Provide technical expertise for submarine launcher systems, weapons-handling equipment, weight handling, and specialized mission systems.
