About The Position

The Subject Matter Expert I (BFTN) is responsible for the management, maintenance, and operation of the BFTN system. BFTN is a complex communication network designed to provide real-time situational awareness and secure information exchange within a military battle force. The BFTN Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient functioning of the network and supporting the operational needs of the military units. Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a security clearance is required.
  • Proven experience in network administration, preferably in a military or defense-related environment.
  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting network equipment, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • In-depth knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, SNMP, etc.), network security principles, and encryption protocols.
  • Able to provide Driving record upon request.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and pre-hire drug test.
  • Must be able to work in an office setting, outdoors, in labs, and onboard ships worldwide.
  • Comfortable working around others or in an independent setting.
  • Must be able to travel worldwide.
  • Must have the ability to ride ships in support of the position.
  • Must be able to respond to emerging requirements that may involve travel and/or extended work hours.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend or squat as required during the day.
  • Must be able to carry tools and equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field.
  • U.S. Navy A and C schools.
  • In-depth knowledge of US Navy communication suites.
  • Rhode & Schwarz experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage the BFTN system to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security.
  • Configure and maintain network devices, including routers, switches, and servers.
  • Implement network upgrades and patches as required, following established protocols and security guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot network issues and coordinate with technical support teams for timely resolution.
  • Configure & maintain Automated Digital Network Systems (ADNS) circuits.
  • Configure & maintain Combined Enterprise Regional Information Exchange System (CENTRIXS) circuits.
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks, including system backups, data restoration, and software updates.
  • Conduct system testing and validation to ensure adherence to performance standards.
  • Identify opportunities for system improvements and propose upgrades to enhance network capabilities.
  • Provide technical support to BFTN users, assisting with network connectivity, software installations, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop user-training materials and conduct training sessions to educate military personnel on BFTN functionalities and best practices.
  • Address user inquiries and resolve issues promptly, ensuring uninterrupted network access and usability.
  • Implement and enforce network security measures, including access controls, firewalls, and encryption protocols.
  • Monitor network activity for potential security breaches or unauthorized access and take appropriate actions to mitigate risks.
  • Stay updated on the latest security trends, vulnerabilities, and best practices, and proactively address any identified risks.
  • Collaborate with other network specialists and military personnel to integrate BFTN with other communication systems and platforms.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams and joint exercises to ensure seamless interoperability between different military units.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for system upgrades, maintenance, and technical support.
  • Understands the operation and tuning of US Navy HF & UHF radio systems (Rhode & Schwarz experience is a plus).
  • Coordinates and establishes Radio Frequency (RF) circuits for BFTN networks.
  • Establishes patches for cryptographic circuits analog and digital.
  • Monitors Bit Error Rates across radio communication channels.
  • Completion of all Contract data requirements. Daily, weekly, and monthly reports as require.
  • Completion of System Operability Verification Test (SOVT).
  • Maintain BFTN Lab and associated equipment.
  • Perform Pre-installation checkout BFTN AN/USQ-195(v) systems.
  • Provide assistance with operator training and general OJT.
  • Attend meetings and record minutes as required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and end-users.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt quickly to changing operational requirements.
