About The Position

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is seeking a passionate, high-energy individual to join the Global Project Controls (GPC) team as a Cost Management Lead for the AMERS East Sub-region, leased data center Fitout program. This role involves working alongside the regional cost management lead to commercially manage all data center fit-out construction projects in the region. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Must pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
  • Chartered Quantity Surveyor (RICS or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of construction contracts used internationally, especially in the Americas.
  • Knowledge and experience of the commercial management role in the procurement of LP contracts and other construction vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the DCD Project Manager to commercially manage all projects in the region.
  • Provide on-location commercial management to ensure Microsoft is financially and contractually protected.
  • Manage all commercial issues on current, future, and past projects, reporting regularly to Project Controls & DCD head office in Redmond.
  • Manage the LP (Leased Provider) from RFP document liaison through final payments and agreement of final accounts and paperwork.
  • Detailed estimation of projects based on local design documents.
  • Estimation of and commercial agreement of all TOFs (Tenant Order Forms) / change orders.
  • Draft commercial detail of all funding requests.
  • Review and agreement of all LP procurement of subcontract packages, including approval of TOFs.
  • Commercial review of all disputes.
  • Commercial management of all other program vendors, including presenting proposals for purchase order approval, approving invoices, and final account agreement & closeout.
  • Manage the QS (Quantity Surveyor) firm contracted for commercial support in the region.
  • Assist in the procurement of the QS firm.
  • Manage allocated project resources to ensure they are appropriate in number and quality.
  • Conduct regular MBUs (Management Business Updates) with cost management firms.
  • Ensure the full suite of cost reports is available for review by Redmond on a monthly basis.
  • Provide the PER (funding) team all necessary commercial support for determining funding intervals and backing up funding requests.
  • Support site selection by providing constructability reports and site-specific comparative estimates on candidate sites, along with necessary funding and PO support.
  • Review current commercial processes in the region and develop a commercial playbook, responsible for its consistent implementation.
