About The Position

The Studio Coach supports the execution of Cornell Tech’s Studio program, working with the Studio team (both faculty and staff) to ensure students learn how to build digitally-enabled products and services that matter. The Studio Coach reports to the Director of Studio Programming and takes academic direction from the Chief Practice Officer and studio faculty. This position is at 75 percent effort (30 hours per week) and is not eligible for Cornell's benefits. This position requires evening and weekend work, particularly during the academic year. This position will be primarily in person on Cornell Tech’s Roosevelt Island campus in New York City. Coaches that start June 29th will be required to be on campus Monday through Thursday during the program dates of July 13th to 30th. In the fall, ALL COACHES will be required to be in the office 2–3 days per week. Individuals must be located in the United States throughout the appointment period. Coaches will be required to be present for all Studio academic activities, including classes, recitations, workshops, and Maker Days. The majority of these in-person activities will happen on Fridays during the semester.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a business or technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with a focus on entrepreneurship
  • Experience creating and developing digitally-enabled products and services
  • Strong organizational skills and significant experience in program execution
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and relationship-building qualities; ability to coach and give feedback to people while maintaining a positive and productive rapport
  • Proven ability to work in a team context, as well as the ability to be effective when working independently
  • Demonstrated computer skills and experience with standard desktop tools, including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office 365, Slack, Airtable, and Zoom
  • Highest standards of integrity to develop trust with current students, faculty, staff, partners, and employers

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and support teams of high school students as they develop technology-driven innovation projects throughout the program.
  • Facilitate team collaboration, helping students brainstorm ideas, define problems, and develop creative solutions.
  • Guide students through the innovation process, including ideation, research, prototyping, testing, and iteration.
  • Provide feedback on student work, helping teams refine their concepts and strengthen their project direction.
  • Support program staff during workshops, studio sessions, and project work time.
  • Help troubleshoot project challenges and connect students with relevant resources or technical guidance when needed.
  • Collaborate with other coaches and program staff to ensure a smooth and positive student experience.
  • Complete required Youth Protection Training and ensure full compliance with all institutional youth safety policies
  • Enforce program rules, behavioral expectations, and safeguarding protocols for all participants
  • Serve as a responsible chaperone during program activities, maintaining active supervision and ensuring participant safety at all times
  • Collaborate with instructors to ensure the curriculum in Canvas has all necessary relevant information, and is well-organized and up to date
  • Support the development of newly created content, including conducting research, case writing, and planning workshops
  • Provide office hours to students and teams
  • Provide guidance and feedback to students aligned with faculty instruction
  • Report to faculty and staff on student feedback and progress
  • Assess student progress, assign grades, and provide written feedback on class deliverables in accordance with faculty instruction
  • Incorporate feedback about class deliverables into coaching and mentoring
  • Lead and support workshops and recitations in accordance with faculty instruction
  • Prepare materials and coordinate room logistics with the Studio team
  • Monitor and record attendance and participation by students
