About The Position

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Studies and Plans Project Engineer. This position is accountable for supervising and coordinating the activities of two or more design squads in the preparation of design and environmental reports, construction plans, and specifications for transportation improvements. The position is also responsible for the review of such reports, plans, and specifications.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Five years of experience in civil engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares design and environmental reports that ensure compliance with state and federal policies.
  • Prepares contract plans and specifications for a cost-effective, high quality transportation improvement.
  • Sets, monitors, and meets time schedules and budgets for assigned projects.
  • Ensures that all assigned projects are completed for the scheduled contract letting.
  • Directs, reviews, and negotiates consultant contracts.
  • Coordinates public and interagency involvement.
  • Assigns, trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinate personnel.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
