About The Position

Under the supervision of the Library Dean and with guidance from Library Technicians, the hourly employee will provide customer service at PCC Library’s Access Services, including the Circulation and Computer Lab Desks. The position averages 10–12 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters, with schedules based on Library needs and operating hours. The tentative start date is October 2026, contingent upon completion of the HR screening process. Applicants must be enrolled in at least 6 units at PCC in Fall 2026. Continued employment in Spring and Summer 2027 requires enrollment in at least 6 units during the Spring 2027 semester. Applications from non-PCC students will not be accepted.

Requirements

  • Detail-oriented, responsible, punctual, accountable, and motivated to assist in various tasks
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to follow the Library of Congress call number system
  • Ability to alphabetize and file numerically
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; outstanding interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to lift several books at a time, and ability to push/pull loaded book carts
  • Familiarity with Windows, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft 365
  • Familiarity with Google Apps (Chrome, Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.)
  • Applicants must be enrolled in at least 6 units at PCC in Fall 2026. Continued employment in Spring and Summer 2027 requires enrollment in at least 6 units during the Spring 2027 semester.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous library experience and/or enrollment in the PCC Library Technician program
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Knowledge of PCC LancerPoint and Canvas
  • Knowledge of Wepa cloud printing

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the library’s management system to check-out and check-in books and laptops, and locate reserve materials
  • Answer general questions, assist library users with locating items, and answer the telephone
  • Clear book drops, shelf-read, and shelve various library materials
  • Maintain stacks and high-traffic areas tidy and organized (i.e. dusting, straightening, etc.)
  • Assist students with computers, printers and scanners
  • Responsibly handle money and make change
  • Perform other duties as assigned
