About The Position

The Student Technician Apprentice will gain meaningful hands-on experience in automotive technician repairs and diagnostics while being mentored by an experienced Automotive Technician. They will diagnose and perform repairs on specified vehicle components with efficiency and accuracy under the direction of a senior or master technician and in accordance with dealer and manufacturer/factory standards.

Requirements

  • Exceptional customer service skills; ability to listen to customer and determine how to best assist them
  • Basic knowledge of automotive systems and a passion for automotive
  • Strong desire to learn and grow as a technician
  • Ability to use technical reference materials and technical manuals
  • Ability to wear all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer
  • Ability to take direction from multiple senior employees and prioritize
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Outstanding attention to detail with a commitment to quality
  • Ability to follow processes to ensure quality and safety
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude during training period while learning as a fast pace
  • Basic computer skills, including navigating web browsers and using standard applications such as Microsoft Office
  • Current high school senior enrolled in an automotive training program
  • Valid Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Assist Technician mentor with performing basic automotive and truck maintenance services including, but not limited to, oil changes, brake repair, tire replacement and repair, and general preventative maintenance
  • Assist Technician mentor with assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting
  • Clean and inspect parts
  • Maintains a clean, efficient work area and assists in keeping the shop neat and organized
  • Safely operate and maintain a variety of hand and power shop tools
  • Performs additional duties related to the repair of vehicles as required and assigned by Technician mentor or Supervisors
  • Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order
  • Communicate with Service Advisor and/or Dispatcher if additional work is needed
  • Understand the flow of repair orders and service department functions at the dealership level
  • Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer and in accordance with company policies
  • Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to working with hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management immediately
  • Gain an understanding of the flow of repair orders and service department functions at the dealership level
  • Regularly engage and interact with Service Advisors to understand the importance of communication and customer satisfaction
  • Achieve skill benchmark goals and complete scheduled progress reports with the program team and high school counselors
  • Follows all attendance and punctuality standards with adherence to timekeeping standards
  • Follows the Company Code of Business Ethics and Conduct
  • Understands and follows all work rules and procedures and follows lawful directions from Supervisors
  • Upholds the company's non-disclosure and confidentiality policies and agreements
  • Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with company policy
  • Attends pertinent training on request
  • Attends company meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned
