iQ Academy, Los Angeles delivers online/virtual home based instruction to K-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. K12, inc. is our curriculum provider. Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school teachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers and staff, therefore, need to share the school’s pioneering mission and approach. The Student Support Specialists offer personalized assistance to students identified for additional support. This assistance includes individual guidance in navigating the curriculum, executing Back on Track Plans, finishing assignments, advocating for extra support, and offering any other academic assistance required, along with fulfilling other responsibilities as required within their contracted hours. Virtual schools are innovative models in public education that combine proven instructional strategies with forward-thinking technology solutions to meet the diverse needs of students. As part of a pioneering educational model, staff must embrace both academic excellence and whole-child support. The Student Support Specialist plays a critical role in advancing student achievement by providing targeted academic intervention, monitoring student progress, supporting engagement initiatives, and collaborating with families and staff to ensure equitable access to instruction. This role bridges social-emotional learning with structured academic intervention to ensure students remain on track for graduation.
