About The Position

Wellness Together, a California nonprofit, is on a mission to champion the mental health of California's students and families by forging dynamic partnerships with schools to bring accessible, cutting-edge social-emotional support directly to students on campuses statewide. We are seeking a Student Support Counselor to provide crisis-focused mental health services primarily to foster youth, system-involved youth, and students with complex trauma histories in school settings. This role involves responding to acute mental health crises, conducting risk assessments, and developing safety plans for vulnerable student populations. It is ideal for a compassionate mental health professional dedicated to supporting youth who have experienced significant life challenges and systemic involvement.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related field
  • Registration in good standing with the California BBS (AMFT, ACSW, APCC, LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC)
  • Experience supporting foster youth, gang-impacted youth, system-involved youth, or students impacted by complex trauma
  • Demonstrated experience working within child welfare, juvenile justice, or residential treatment systems
  • 2+ years of crisis intervention experience with youth
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including social workers, probation officers, and legal advocates
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and evidence-based crisis interventions
  • Strong interest in serving vulnerable youth populations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting foster youth, system-involved youth, gang-impacted youth, or students impacted by complex trauma
  • Fluency in a second language
  • Bilingual Spanish Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention, risk assessments, and case management
  • Deliver individual and group counseling to students
  • Develop and implement short-term intervention plans
  • Work closely with school staff and external mental health agencies
  • Offer training for students, parents, and educators
  • Maintain thorough documentation of services provided
  • Ensure ethical, evidence-based mental health practices
