About The Position

The Summer Fellow is an 8-week or 4-week student researcher who engages in an intensive, full-time research or creative project over an eight-week summer period under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Summer Fellows are expected to contribute meaningfully to their academic field through independent or team-based research, creative work, or applied projects, and to participate fully in the intellectual community of the campus during the program. Applications are reviewed by the Student Achievement in Research and Creativity Committee and/or the FUTURE program leaders.

Requirements

  • 8-week applicants should be a current sophomore or junior at Ursinus College at the time of application; 4-week applicants should be a current first-year or sophomore student.
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must have an identified faculty mentor willing to supervise the project
  • Summer Fellows may not hold full-time outside employment during the program. (Part-time employment and/or community service is permitted up to a maximum of 14 hours per week.)
  • Outside employment or community service must not interfere with full participation in the program, including project development, presentations, weekly lunches, Wednesday Common Hours, and other scheduled activities

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a full-time research or creative project in collaboration with a faculty mentor
  • Participate in weekly Summer Fellows lunches and Wednesday Common Hours
  • Participate in presentations and other scheduled program activities
  • Engage with the broader campus intellectual community throughout the duration of the program
