About The Position

The University of Maine and the University of Maine at Machias are seeking a passionate Student Success Advocate to support students in reaching their educational goals. This 12-month, in-person role is primarily based on the Machias campus, with travel to the Orono campus to foster a seamless student experience. The advocate will serve as a primary point of contact, providing critical intervention by leveraging EAB Navigate to identify early warning signs and deliver proactive, data-driven support. This position offers the unique opportunity to travel between UMaine Machias and Orono, engage with students holistically, and join occasional weekend events to build authentic relationships and a true sense of belonging. The role requires a willingness to travel to make a significant impact on a student's success.

Requirements

• Typically has the education associated with a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous experience in academic advising or student services.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree.
• Experience in higher education.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
• Experience with educational technology and advising software (e.g. Oracle PeopleSoft, EAB Navigate).
• Excellent communication skills, including effective written, oral, presentation and facilitation skills with internal and external constituencies.
• High level of self-motivation and ability to work independently.
• Proven track record of student advocacy and support.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a dedicated advocate for students, ensuring they have the tools and confidence to reach their educational goals.
• Bridge the gap between the University of Maine at Machias and the University of Maine at Orono communities.
• Help students tap into the expansive resource network and vibrant student life at the Orono campus.
• Provide critical intervention by leveraging EAB Navigate to identify early warning signs.
• Deliver proactive, data-driven support to students.
• Travel between UMaine Machias and Orono to foster a seamless student experience.
• Engage with students holistically.
• Join occasional weekend events to build authentic relationships and a true sense of belonging.
