About The Position

The Student Success Advisor provides academic and personal advising and case management services to about 375 undergraduate students. Using a holistic approach, Student Success Advisors work to empower, educate, and support students from matriculation to graduation. This role involves advising students through course selection and registration, overseeing students on academic probation, approving leave of absences and course withdrawals, approving advanced placement credits, auditing academic progress, providing referral and follow-up services for students in personal crisis, and collaborating with partner offices to ensure students receive timely information and support.

Requirements

A minimum of 2 years of experience working with students in an advising or coaching capacity
Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to and empathy with the developmental needs of today’s college students
Ability to work with ethnically, culturally, and socially diverse students, staff, and faculty
Must have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Must have strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Workday and Salesforce or other student information systems
Ability to understand and make use of relevant student information and data to provide individualized advising services, support student success interventions, and implement targeted programming
Must be flexible and willing to assume new tasks and special projects.
Must be capable of effectively managing a student crisis and follow up with all appropriate parties in support of their academic, personal, and professional success.
Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks that support Entrepreneurial Thought & Action; to take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.

Responsibilities

Advise students on course selection and registration.
Develop success and graduation plans with advisees.
Track student progress by running reports, reviewing students’ Academic Progress tab, analyzing student data, and communicating with students regarding registration, academic policies, grades, and graduation.
Collaborate with the Registrar on the certification process for undergraduates, including conducting degree audits.
Provide referrals and appropriate support for students experiencing concerns with personal matters affecting them (e.g., college transition challenges, mental and physical health, substance abuse, eating issues, family and other relationship concerns, harassment).
Meet with students and make appropriate referrals on concerns regarding grades, faculty, and their ability to successfully complete a course of study.
Track and review students who are over-or under-enrolled in courses.
Advise students on course options while on Education Abroad experiences.
Approve individual course withdrawal forms.
Educate students on academic policies and procedures, including the Petition for Exception process.
Approve and process advanced credit from high school in partnership with the Director, Undergraduate Administration (e.g., AP, IB, Swiss Matura, French Baccalaureate, and other college-level coursework).
Collaborate with department leadership to approve off-campus courses.
Review requests for exam excuses, in compliance with College policy, and issue approvals/denials as appropriate.
Refer students to Center for Career Development for internship and career planning.
Review requests for leaves of absence and advise students on non-medical and voluntary withdrawals from the College.
Monitor academic progress of students on academic probation and those returning from an academic suspension.
Work closely with departmental leadership, Director, Case Management & CARE Team and the Associate Vice President, Student Success regarding students of concern.
Act as a resource for students involved in the College community standards process.
Support all students and allow for professional growth; create programming and student development opportunities as needed.
Work closely with campus partners to address a range of student issues and concerns.
Accurately and promptly document meetings and notes in our student information system.
Participate in College-wide committees as designated by Director, Student Advising & Success.
Support the efforts of other offices by participating in alumni, admission, undergraduate program, wellness and prevention, learner success, and career development events as designated by the Director, Student Advising & Success.
Assume additional responsibilities as required.
