About The Position

This role is for individuals currently pursuing a college degree who are interested in learning how to participate in effective Young Life ministry through training and direct field experience. Young Life requires all employees to sign a Statement of Faith and adhere to its Christian purposes of evangelism and discipleship. Employees must profess a belief in Jesus Christ, subscribe to Young Life's statements and policies, and conduct themselves in a manner that reflects biblical standards and the organization's mission.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a college degree.
  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must profess a belief in Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord.
  • Must subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff, including the Young Life Statement of Faith.
  • During working and nonworking hours, must be ready, willing, and able to fulfill ministry functions.
  • During working and nonworking hours, must refrain from conduct and statements that detract from the biblical standards taught and supported by Young Life.
  • During working and nonworking hours, must abide by all policies and practices of Young Life, including those related to religious belief or ministry activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Work through job assignments under the supervision of the area director or assigned mentor.
  • Receive individualized training supervised by the area director designed to develop personal spiritual maturity and enhance personal character.
  • Give particular focus to an individualized program to learn and gain competency in ministry skills (i.e. The 5 C’s).
  • Become familiar with area strategy and ministry health as assigned by the area director.
  • Receive introduction to personal fund-raising principles, including familiarity with Basic Elements for Part-Time Staff.
  • Take advantage of Young Life discipleship experiences (e.g. summer staff, discipleship focus, adventure camping).

Responsibilities

  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life, including prayer, spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth, health, and church relationships.
  • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines within an active church community and the Young Life community.
  • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.
  • Meet regularly with volunteer leaders and area leadership.
  • Learn to recruit and train new leaders to build a diverse leadership team.
  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners, and camping to other leaders.
  • Attend and be involved with area leadership as assigned.
  • Raise financial support as directed and maintain good donor care practices.
  • Communicate ministry updates and progress to personal donor partners.
  • Assist with camp fundraisers and attend occasional committee and adult functions.
  • Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.
  • Participate in leadership with a team to conduct a Young Life club and Campaigners/discipleship ministry.
  • Participate on a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy.
  • Potentially serve on summer staff or assigned staff at a Young Life property.
  • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism.
  • Learn to set yearly ministry and personal goals and objectives and review them regularly.
  • Assist in office administration when necessary and assigned.
  • Complete expense reports in a clear and timely fashion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts, experience, and area needs.
