About The Position

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking student employees to support the School of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (SETA) in the assembly, fabrication, and testing of educational robotic systems. Reporting to the Engineering Lab Facilitator, the student worker will assist with hands-on robotics assembly tasks including mechanical integration, electronics fabrication, and system testing. This role focuses on building and maintaining robotic platforms used in coursework, research, and outreach activities. Students will gain practical experience in soldering, PCB fabrication, wiring, and system integration using industry-relevant tools such as reflow ovens and electronic testing equipment. This position offers an opportunity to develop essential technical and professional skills in a collaborative engineering environment.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in an Undergraduate Day program at SNHU
  • In good academic standing
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with electronics, soldering, or mechanical assembly
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical systems or robotics

Responsibilities

  • Assemble robotic systems, including mechanical components and electrical subsystems
  • Perform soldering of wires, through-hole, and surface-mount (SMD) components
  • Install heat-set inserts and assist with mechanical fabrication tasks
  • Support PCB fabrication processes, including reflow oven operation and component placement
  • Wire and integrate sensors, motors, and actuators into robotic systems
  • Test PCBs, sensors, motors, and assembled robotic systems
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient lab environment
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and peers on robotics assembly and lab tasks
  • Adapt to new tasks and responsibilities in support of evolving engineering needs

Benefits

  • Hourly pay range of $12.00 - $15.00
