About The Position

The Computer Science Department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is seeking a Student Services Specialist II to oversee undergraduate curriculum and provide comprehensive departmental instructional support. This position exercises independent judgment in making decisions for the department and provides recommendations to department leadership and the administrator. The Student Services Specialist II coordinates and supports the operation of the department’s undergraduate academic programs. This role includes academic scheduling, course enrollment management, coordination and supervision of tutoring services, undergraduate student employment, data reporting, and overall departmental academic operations. Working collaboratively with faculty, academic advisors, and a broad range of university offices, the Student Services Specialist II ensures the effective administration of undergraduate programs and the delivery of high-quality student support services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Draft course assignments and schedules for review and finalization by the Associate Chair of Education.
  • Manage classroom scheduling, reporting, and course schedule modifications.
  • Analyze and optimize the use of department-owned instructional spaces, including computer labs and conference rooms, to best support students and faculty.
  • Coordinate textbook ordering and grade reporting.
  • Serve as a signature proxy for faculty when needed for course adds and drops.
  • Oversee the Computer Science Help Room, a critical resource supporting undergraduate student retention.
  • Advertise, recruit, hire, schedule, train, evaluate, and supervise approximately 10–15 undergraduate student employees each semester.
  • Manage Help Room payroll, supplies, statistics, and day-to-day operations.
  • Oversee the recruitment, appointment, and orientation of undergraduate teaching assistants.
  • Coordinate special and night exam scheduling in collaboration with faculty.
  • Respond to and assist faculty with course-related concerns, including room scheduling, student enrollment, and related academic matters.
  • Prepare for and provide administrative support for undergraduate curriculum committee meetings.
  • Respond to and assist undergraduate students with questions regarding fees, courses, degree requirements, and schedules.
  • Serve as the staff coordinator for ABET accreditation activities.
