About The Position

Assists in improving the efficiency of existing data processing pipelines by following documented procedures and testing code. Assists in the analysis and interpretation of data. Reads scientific journal articles relevant to the research project (e.g., methods for eDNA metabarcoding analysis, functional diversity, and Tropical Eastern Pacific oceanography). This duty is intended to provide the student with a deeper understanding of the broader research context. Follows established protocols to inspect and organize environmental datasets collected from field instruments (HOBO loggers, YSI). Writes and runs code in Python, R, and ArcGIS following procedures provided by the lab to produce spatial visualizations of eDNA and environmental data. Assists in compiling and formatting a fish functional trait database by gathering trait information from existing published sources and entering it according to a standardized template.

Requirements

  • Experience with R and ArcGIS.
  • Background in ecology.
  • English communication skills (level 3 on a scale of 0-4).
