About The Position

The Centre for Genomics and Policy, Department of Human Genetics is seeking a Student Research Assistant. This position requires a graduate student or an individual with at least a bachelor’s degree in sociology, anthropology, political sciences, psychology, public health, counseling psychology, or ethics/bioethics. The role is based at McGill University and requires a minimum of 14 hours per week during the academic year, with the possibility of full-time work during the summer. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Yann Joly.

Requirements

  • Graduate student or at least a bachelor’s degree in sociology, anthropology, political sciences, psychology, public health, counseling psychology, or ethics/bioethics.
  • Previous research experience in an academic or applied setting.
  • Training in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Working knowledge of French.
  • Ability to engage respectfully and sensitively with research participants, including patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community partners.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative multidisciplinary research team.
  • Commitment to conducting research in accordance with research ethics requirements and project timelines.
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based.

Nice To Haves

  • Training in qualitative research methods.
  • Experience conducting interviews, focus groups or other qualitative research.
  • Experience with qualitative analysis and relevant software (e.g., NVivo, MAXQDA).
  • Familiarity with equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) considerations in research design and implementation.
  • Experience in genomics, bioethics, health policy, public health, precision medicine, or related fields.
  • Fluency in both English and French (spoken and written).
