Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Has completed 1 year of a qualified radiography program and is good standing.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform x-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement.
  • Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology.
  • Knowledge of standard sterile technique for an OR room and c-arm unit.
  • Skill in positioning patients properly.
  • Skill in identifying equipment problems and notifying proper individuals.
  • Skill in working with computers and IT issues.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, physicians, patients and families.
  • Temporary medical radiography license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for radiologic procedures by providing verbal and written instructions and assists patients in positioning body parts to be radiographed.
  • Determines length and intensity for radiation exposure by adjusting equipment on individual patient basis.
  • Follows prescribed safety standards in operating radiological equipment.
  • Uses a variety of radiation protection and shielding materials.
  • Examines radiological images for properties such as density and contrast, definition, magnification, and distortion.
  • Maintains x-ray rooms; stocks necessary medical and radiological supplies.
  • Cleans and makes minor adjustments to radiological equipment.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA Guidelines.
  • Monitors all imaging storage in PACS system and permanent storage.
  • Facilitates all clerical duties and record administration regarding x-ray imaging and reports.
