About The Position

The Student Radiologic Tech performs diagnostic imaging procedures under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered radiographer. This role involves assuming responsibility for the general care and safety of patients during imaging procedures, ensuring equipment and supplies are accounted for, and coordinating and performing routine diagnostic and fluoroscopic procedures, portable x-rays, trauma, and surgery procedures according to established standards. Essential functions include utilizing standardized positioning, ALARA concepts, and immobilization techniques to minimize patient movement and maximize safety, producing x-ray images as directed by physicians or radiologists, and proficiently operating and maintaining imaging equipment with necessary quality assurance. The tech evaluates images for technical quality, manipulates display parameters, and pushes images to PACS for permanent patient records, ensuring proper identification. Patient protection from radiation exposure is paramount, utilizing lead shields and safety factors. The role also involves performing EHR clerical functions related to patient chart documentation and verifying patients’ clinical history for licensed practitioners. Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 1 year of relevant experience
  • Must have completed the first year of an accredited imaging program
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Upon Hire required Or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross Upon Hire required

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic imaging procedures under direct or indirect supervision of a registered radiographer.
  • Assume responsibility and maintain the general care and safety of patients during imaging procedures.
  • Assure equipment/supplies are present and accounted for at beginning and end of each imaging procedure.
  • Coordinate and perform routine diagnostic and fluoroscopic procedures, portable x-rays, trauma and surgery procedures according to established standards and practices.
  • Perform a wide range of diagnostic radiological and fluoroscopic procedures utilizing standardized positioning, As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) concepts and immobilization techniques to minimize patient movement and maximize patient safety.
  • Produce x-ray images of specified body areas as directed by the physician or radiologist.
  • Proficiently operate and maintain imaging equipment through safe handling and assisting in necessary quality assurance.
  • Evaluate images and data for technical quality, manipulate display parameters, and push images to picture archiving and communication system (PACS) as the accepted electronic format for permanent patient record, assuring proper identification is evident.
  • Ensure the protection of patients from undue exposure to radiation through the utilization of lead shields and various safety factors.
  • Perform EHR clerical functions related to patient chart documentation.
  • Verify patients’ clinical history, ensuring that information is documented and readily available to the licensed practitioner.
