About The Position

This work-study position is for a student who enjoys animals and will serve as an animal caretaker for the vivarium. Most duties will be performed at the end of the day on weekdays (3:00 PM - 5:00 PM EST) to allow students to conduct experiments during the day. Weekend feeding times are more flexible. Training will be provided for all tasks, and the student will work directly with a Psychology Faculty member.

Requirements

  • Must be a student.
  • Enjoys animals.
  • Ability to communicate with the lab supervisor regarding weekend availability.
  • Willingness to learn feeding procedures and other tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Check and refill water bottles when needed.
  • Clean/change water bottles and cages weekly.
  • Check that all animals have been weighed and fed by end of day (between 3-5 pm). Weigh and feed if necessary.
  • Daily/weekly sweeping, cleaning of tables and flooring.
  • Monthly cleaning of some of the larger shelves and similar items.
  • On weekends - Check water levels and feed animals’ daily food on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Keep record of all activity on a log sheet including but not limited to room temperature, humidity and other relevant items.
  • Other duties as assigned.
