About The Position

This posting is for a new headcount for a Co-Op student role as a Production Group Leader. The role is categorized as Onsite, requiring the successful candidate to report to Oshawa Assembly Plant a minimum of five times per week, or other frequency dictated by the business. General Motors (GM) is seeking a new generation of visionaries to help launch bold engineering and business initiatives and shape new directions for the company. As an intern or co-op student through the EXCEL (Exploring Careers through Experiential Learning) Program, you will gain hands-on career-specific experiences to maximize your real-world potential. The Production Group Leader is responsible for supervising a group of employees involved in production or operations, ensuring quality products are produced in a safe and timely manner. The role also involves reducing costs, eliminating waste, and improving safety practices. The Co-Op student will collaborate with other Group Leaders to support business objectives and maintain operations at a world-class level. Problem-solving work may be technical, requiring timely decisions within specified limits, the ability to cope with change, and comfort with risk and uncertainty. The role also involves collaborating on innovation challenges, interacting with industry leaders, attending professional trade events, and volunteering for community service activities. Openings are available in several departments, including General Assembly, Paint, Sub-Assembly, Stamping, and Quality.

Requirements

  • Pursuit of a Bachelors Degree (3rd or 4th year) in Computer Science, Engineering (Computer, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Automotive Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent), Supply Chain, Business, Commerce
  • Eligible to work full-time (40 hours per week) in Canada and for 8, or 12 months (consecutive semesters) starting September 2026
  • Willing to work in a plant environment and flexible hours (shift work, weekends, and overtime) to meet business needs
  • Must be enrolled in a Co-Op or Internship program and meet the program’s eligibility requirements
  • All students must also be legally entitled to work in Canada

Nice To Haves

  • Prior manufacturing experience, knowledge of production environments, and in automotive industry are considered assets
  • Previous supervisory, or team leading experience
