About The Position

Reporting to the assigned Placement Supervisor and Program Manager, the student will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for providing life skill programming, case management and issue specific counselling support to residents who are adults who currently enrolled transitional housing program.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in post-secondary education in Social Services, Child and Youth Care, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
  • Valid Certification in First Aid & CPR
  • Training in ASIST and CPI
  • Vulnerable Screening Level 3

Nice To Haves

  • Any experience supporting the vulnerable sector is an asset
  • Previous experience working at a non-profit agency is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Administer naloxone in response to suspected opioid overdoses, and must complete appropriate training to recognize overdose symptoms, safely administer naloxone via nasal spray or injection, and follow emergency protocols including contacting emergency services.
  • Support informal counselling to promote positive health and independency in the community.
  • Act as role model to facilitate physical, emotional, and intellectual growth.
  • Support the Specialist as primary worker that provides specialized case management and community outreach services to a designated case load.
  • Work in partnership with community agencies to coordinate support services.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of residency plan and goals.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining individual skill building daily living and social skills necessary to obtain independency in the community.
  • Support the development and facilitation of programming.
  • Understand crisis de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviours.
  • Understand and be able to integrate a philosophy of strength based and client-centered care into daily responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality care and service delivery based on SHIP’s Mission and Values.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and records are kept and ensure that statistical information is maintained as per agency and privacy standards.
  • Adhere to agency Health & Safety Program and the Client Safety Framework.
  • Perform additional duties as required/delegated by Management.
