About The Position

Fitness and Recreation strives to help all student employees develop their career readiness upon graduation. Student Employees are applying academic learning by developing workforce competencies, per The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) guidelines which are: Critical Thinking/Problem Solving Oral/Written Communications Teamwork/Collaboration Digital Technology Leadership Professionalism/Work Ethic Career Management Global/Intercultural Fluency Using a variety of training, teaching, and motivational techniques, this position will create a positive exercise experience. This position is a professional who leads and motivates small groups/individuals through intentionally designed, individualized training sessions. They plan effective, exercise science-based individual sessions for different fitness and experience levels. They also possess a wealth of motivational and leadership techniques that help individuals achieve fitness goals. Trainers know the human body, the science of exercise and how to inspire, challenge and motivate change in the lives of the people they lead. This position also assists with providing health education sessions to members and the OU community in-person or via Zoom. This position is for employment beginning in the Fall 2026 semester. Training will begin immediately upon hire.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in the Fall 2026 Term as an undergraduate student in good standing at the University of Oklahoma.
  • Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
  • Must be able to train all ages and special populations.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a certification accredited through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) within 6 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Personal Trainers currently certified through a NCCA accredited organization such as NETA, ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA, or ISSA-NCCPT.
  • Current NCCA-approved certification is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities
