About The Position

This position is for a Student Part-Time Professor teaching Visual Literacy and User Experience Design Principles (DTO7103) during the Fall 2026 semester. The course covers fundamentals of visual, interaction, and motion design theories and principles as they relate to User Experience Design (UXD). It involves hands-on workshops, assignments focusing on building visual literacy through observations, critiques, and redesigns of digital products. Students will complete a design project, conduct research, and justify design decisions in writing.

Requirements

  • PhD Student
  • Must have a relevant graduate degree.
  • Worked professionally in a field relevant to both visual arts and user experience design for at least five years.
  • Active in university community activities related to visual arts, STEAM and user experience design.
  • Expert knowledge of visual, interaction and motion design theories.
  • Expert knowledge of branding strategies, emotional engagement, data visualization and storytelling as it relates to user experience design.
  • Significant experience managing and mentoring both artistic and technical people on user experience design projects.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Visual Literacy and User Experience Design Principles (DTO7103).
  • Focus on fundamentals of visual, interaction and motion design theories and principles as they relate to User Experience Design (UXD).
  • Conduct hands-on workshops and assignments focusing on building visual literacy through guided observations, visual design critiques, and visual redesigns of existing screen-based digital products.
  • Oversee students completing a design project.
  • Guide students in conducting research and scholarship in visual literacy, and UXD.
  • Ensure students justify their design decisions in writing.
