About The Position

Jolt’s Organizing program mobilizes young Latinx voters, with the goal of forging a democracy that works for everyone. Through community and student organizing, leadership development, voter engagement, and multi-issue advocacy, we are empowering young Latinos to harness the brilliance of our community and culture to create a collective voice that drives change.
The Student Organizer will work with Jolt’s Regional Organizers to:
Create a culture of civic engagement on campus through identifying opportunities to register voters in classrooms, at campus events, and while tabling.
Build power for our community through voter registration and collecting pledge to vote cards so voters never miss an election.
Contribute to our power to turnout and turn-up the heat on elected officials that don’t treat our community with the respect we deserve by inputting pledge card data so that people can receive election reminders.
Join Jolt’s Get out the Vote efforts by conducting outreach via EveryAction, ThruText, and/or tabling.

Requirements

• Must be a student at the University or College in Texas where assigned.
• Ability to identify opportunities to register voters in classrooms, at campus events, and while tabling.
• Ability to collect pledge to vote cards.
• Ability to input pledge card data.
• Experience with outreach via EveryAction, ThruText, and/or tabling.
• Willingness to create and participate in social media content.

Nice To Haves

• Priority given to professors in Latin American Studies, Government, Women and Gender Studies, Mexican American Studies, etc.
• Priority given to Freshman classes.

Responsibilities

• Conduct voter registration and pledge card collection at tabling events on campus.
• Complete data entry for and turn in an average of 70 pledge to vote cards per month.
• Work with Regional Organizer and connect them to 5 professors regarding registering voters in their class with priority given to Latin American Studies, Government, Women and Gender Studies, Mexican American Studies, etc., and Freshman classes.
• Identify upcoming events on campus at which to set up a voter registration table (e.g., Freshman welcome events, organization fairs, cultural events).
• Add scheduled voter registration events to Jolt’s Tracking database.
• Assist with Get out the Vote efforts by conducting outreach via EveryAction, ThruText, and/or tabling during elections.
• May be asked to create and participate in creating social media content on campus around civic education and issues impacting your community.

Benefits

• $400 monthly stipend for work for a tenure of up to 3 months within each semester.
• Payment will depend on deliverables and will be distributed at the end of each month.
